It’s normal to start a new chapter in life after a relationship ends. You either return to your previous lifestyle or start a new one.
I met up with Damian, an old friend from school, at a grocery store in NYC. It was great to catch up with him after a long time. We planned to meet again, and that’s when he shared the story of his separation from Sandra, the woman everyone thought he’d marry after school.
Damian’s Story
“My ex left me on a Sunday, and I realized I was caged all along. Sandra came to the house while I was watching the Manchester United vs. Everton match. She said she had something important to discuss with me. I had to give her my attention, despite the inconvenient timing.
At first, I thought she was joking, but her serious expression told me otherwise. She left me that Sunday evening, and my life was never the same.
Although I was heartbroken, Manchester United’s win against Everton that day brought me some solace. I tried to move on, but it was tough. Two weeks after she stopped taking my calls, I decided to treat myself well. Instead of wallowing in sadness, I chose to focus on moving forward.

Four weeks after she left, I started to heal. I stopped thinking about her, and things started falling into place. It was as if her presence in my life had hindered my progress.
Before, I couldn’t make female friends because my ex was jealous, but she had many male friends. Now, I’ve found someone better. My new girlfriend is open and introduced me to all her friends.
I’m taking things easy to avoid another heartbreak, but my new partner is far better than my ex.”
It was a surprise to me, as many others thought Damian and Sandra would end up together. But destiny had other plans. Today, they’re separated, and Damian is fulfilled with his new love. Congratulations to them, and I hope Sandra has also found happiness with someone else.
