Despite enjoying the melodious voice behind the microphone as he elevates our hearts, no one knew that Kirk Franklin for years has suffered a serious family crisis.
The ‘I Smile’ gospel song crooner shared in a podcast a heartbreaking story of how and why he stopped talking to his mother for more than two decades.
Franklin had gone to take care of his sister Soana who was released from prison for drug trafficking.
However, he thought to himself that he needed more than one hand to help him out in trying to help his sister who just got out from prison but still returned to the same lifestyle that got her imprisoned. He phoned his mother to come and assist.

Upon arrival, Kirk Franklin said his mother walked in with her new man/husband. He (mother’s man) sat far from them in order to give them enough space to have their family discussion, at one point the man interrupted after a statement “this is what family should be like” was made by his mother.
Franklin, visibly angry, tried to shun the young man from interfering into their family business. To his greatest surprise, instead of his mother to support him in shunning her man, she went ahead to carry her bag and exited the door with him (her man).
The problem was left for Kirk Franklin to handle all by himself to this very day.
He decided never to talk to his mother again and from that time to the time of sharing this story, Frank has never spoken to his mother again.
