A 71-year-old man, Alfred W. Ruf, has admitted to lacing his wife’s Coca-Cola with a deadly cocktail of drugs, including cocaine and MDMA, in a twisted plot to end her life and marry her own daughter, who was allegedly in on the scheme.
According to court documents, Ruf spiked his wife’s drinks at least a dozen times in 2021, leading to her hospitalization on multiple occasions with symptoms such as headaches, diarrhea, and drowsiness. Tests revealed the presence of drugs she had not knowingly consumed.
When confronted by police, Ruf confessed to adding an unknown substance to his wife’s drink, which he claimed was provided by her daughter. He also admitted to having sexual relations with the daughter and her friend, whom he paid for their services.
Ruf’s wife reported that he had been drugging her to engage in sexual activities with the younger women. However, Ruf claimed he was trying to kill her to collect on her insurance policy and marry her daughter, who had allegedly told him to “get mom out of the picture.”
On August 26, Ruf pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a risk of death and was sentenced to four years in prison, followed by five years of probation. A charge of conspiracy to commit murder was dismissed as part of the plea deal.
